In 2013 they returned to begin taking over Michael’s father’s winery in Kitzingen in Franconia, Bavarian Germany. Michael’s father is a long-time winemaker, who in fact sits on the quality control board for the appellation, but has been very supportive of Michael’s desire to make wine without additives. Michael has a particular interest in bats in the vineyard, and a few of the labels are inspired by them. He obtains bat guano from a local nature conservancy, which he uses when fertilizer is required. He is also sponsoring a research project to fund the role of bats in the vineyard. No fining, no filtering, no sulfur addition.

Tasting Notes A fragrant nose showing lemongrass and kaffir lime leaf aromas typical of young Hunter Semillon. These characters continue onto the palate with a wonderful fruit weight which is complimented by the perfect acid structure, which keeps the flavor lingering. Description At two years of age on release, this wine still has a lovely pale yellow color with green tints, showing the wines capacity for longevity. A wine that is drinking well now but will only build in complexity if given time.

Uco Deus Sauvignon Blanc Valle de Uco (2022) is a testament to the pristine terroir of Argentina's Valle de Uco. Intense ruby red with purple reflections. Viney on the nose, delicate scent of cherries, violets and raspberries. On the palate, the Sterparo is round and powerful, with subtle fruit sweetness, red fruits, velvety tannins. Great elegance, it looks light and is extremely drinkable, despite the full body.

A textbook blue stone Brouilly style Beaujolais-Villages from one of the great women winemakers in France. Beautiful purity of gamay noir fruit – cement ageing – showcases the unique expression of Beaujolais. Marine Descombe runs her family winery and bottling business at Vins Descombe in Brouilly. Started in 1905 by her grandfather, Marine now heads up all aspects. Vinification is in the Burgundy style of slow and soft grape pressing, vatting for 10 days. Fermentation lasts one month and then the wine ages in large cement tanks

Neither glitzy nor flashy, but perfectly embodies the region’s rural soul. A signature blend of 50% Merlot with equal parts Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, even at its modest price point it possesses much of the dark-fruited complexity that made Bordeaux famous in the first place – but rendered in a brighter, more refreshing frame.

Description The Portuguese penchant for complex blends is largely to thank for Tinta Barroca's success. Although it does not produce varietal wines of any distinction, it excels as a blending component. There are just a handful of single-variety Tinta Barroca wines produced in the world, a majority of them in South Africa. Intense, super-ripe, high-alcohol Tinta Barroca has evolved into something of a trademark style for some vineyards of the Western Cape. Classic bubbles from Asolo, a subregion of Prosecco located due north of Venice. This bottle offers aromas of crisp, custardy apple with a creamy mouthfeel which is relatively dry for the dosage and finishes with a slightly drying note, making this an excellent choice to match with fried foods as tempura or antipasti.

Tasting Notes The Wonderwerk Big Orange California (2023) offers a burst of ripe citrus, tropical fruit, and a hint of spice. It's a vibrant and refreshing orange wine, perfect for those seeking a bold and flavorful experience. Description Words from the winemakers themselves: "This vintage, we focused a lot on the idea of 'flavor': How to build flavors through blends, what is a 'flavor-forward' wine? 'Big Orange' is meant to deliver on a larger format, easy-to-drink orange wine for the masses. When people say they like 'orange wine,' what do they mean? Well, we think this is it."

This OTT1L Muscat Ottonel Orange Thracian Valley dry orange wine is made from 100% muscat ottonel  grapes. The wine is bottled unfiltered in a limited quantity of 1100 bottles. The color has the intense orange hue characteristic of this type of wine. The aroma is richly floral, typical of the Muscat Otonel variety, slightly spicy and at the same time with hints of citrus fruit. ABV 12.5% Food pairing: Orange wine is great in combination with meat dishes and those with a rich texture and cream base. The gentle and integrated tannins of OTT1L also make it pleasant to drink on its own, but a great partner for soft and aged cheeses

A lovely orange from Italy’s Adriatic Coast. 100% Malvasia from the Orsogna cooperative. This orange wine leads with notes of fallen orchard apple, peach, tropical fruit, and floral tones. Nice body and acidity for pairing with bolder foods like curry dishes. Biodynamic.

Sweet sherry "Alexandro" Cream is produced in the area of Jerez de la Frontera from the grapes Palomino Fino and Pedro Jimenez. It has a rich aroma with tones of spices, honey and raisins, has an expressive taste with a piquant bitter ending.

Coming from 100% Palomino, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel and resulted in an 11% wine that was then fortified with neutral grape brandy to 15%. This alcohol degree, combined with the climate of the region, and the old giant cellars of barrels (Criadera systems) in Jerez, come together to create the perfect condition for the famous ‘flor’ yeast to appear on top of the aging Sherry. By law, Fino must age for at least two years under Flor before it can be bottled. Since this Sherry is meant to be fresher and younger in style, it was bottled not long after the required time (around 3 years), and released for immediate and delicious consumption. The result is expressive on the nose with almonds, Mediterranean herbs, and sea-spray. The delicate and bone-dry palate has briny bitter almonds, crunchy autumn leaves, and the classic ‘Flor’ quality that pairs ideally with so many quintessential tapas foods, mild cheeses, and a range of seafoods.

This Sherry was bottled to showcase its aged and layered personality. Aromas of walnut, toasted almond, and peach pith are backed by elegance and the unique finesse that oxidized Palomino can display. Intense flavors and a velvety persistence fill the mouth with nuts and fruit and wisps of the ocean. This Oloroso is delightful with hearty meats, mature cheeses, or as an incredible layer to a wide array of alcohols and mixers for top-notch cocktails.

The Alexandro Pedro Ximénez Sherry is a wildly delicious and exuberant dessert style sweet wine made from 100% Pedro Ximénez grapes in the clay rich soils of Cádiz. The white grapes (don’t be fooled by the color of the Sherry) hang on the vines for as long as possible to develop all the sugar possible before turning into wine. The grapes have such an intense concentration of sugar that it has a hard time fermenting, but once it reaches the desired sugar content, the wine is fortified to 16% alcohol for a long aging in the criadera system in an oxidative fashion (thus the dark almost rootbeer black color). The resulting Sherry is stunningly complex, with remarkable sweetness, and a rich date, fig, and black walnut character. Silky and beautifully textured, this PX is perfect for many types of dessert, intense blue cheese, ‘syrup’ for your pancakes, or sauce for your ice cream.

César Florido’s name is synonymous with moscatel. His moscatel is the reference point for the classic, balanced sweet wines of the zone, characterized by notes of orange blossom, jasmine, and a honeyed, raisiny palate. His village of Chipiona, with its sandy-clay soils, is well adapted to the grape variety and has the best moscatel vineyards in the region. These concentrated wines, made from shriveled grapes can acquire enormous complexity with a long period of cask aging.

TIO PEPE Fino in Rama is the maximum expression of biological aging; it is Tio Pepe without filtering or clarifying, extracted directly from the center of the boot in spring, when the flor reaches its maximum splendor. Due to the uniqueness of the product, it is made in very small quantities and its consumption is recommended during the first three months after bottling. "En rama" is an expression once used to refer to wine in its most delicate state, before the normal processes of stabilization, clarification and filtration. "En Rama" expresses the unique character of Sherry: the penetrating aromas of the wineries and the intensity of the veil of "flower", the yeast that interacts with the wine and gives it its unique and delicate character.

This sweet delight is an explosion of raisins, dry figs, and honey. A real treat for Sherry lovers!

An exceedingly rare oloroso, in that it is actually aged very briefly under flor prior to its 15-20 years of solera ageing oxidatively, the Villapanés is one of the great wines of Jerez. As with the other Emilio Hidalgo wines, there is an understated elegance which marks the wine and defines the style of the house.

La Cigarrera has a prima location in the barrio bajo, the lower quarter of Sanlúcar. As a former almacenista their wines were previously sold to other houses including Lustau, but La Cigarrera started bottling their own Manzanilla in 1997. Aged between four and five years in a solera system with eight scales. Nose: quite a high intensity nose, full of brine, chalky notes and almonds. Typical chamomile. Freshness of citrus zest and light whiffs of herbs. Mouth: smooth with decent complexity, still on salty notes, seaweed, peanuts and bitter almonds. Citric notes but overall the acidity is quite low. Soft fennel notes and green olives. Medium finish.

This comes from a 225 year old family owned winery in Chiclana de la Frontera and is made entirely of organically farmed Palomino. It was aged first for five years biologically and then for over twelve years in an oxidative style. The nose shows a lifted personality with a nose redolent of nuts, spices, and a bit of dried caramel / dulce de leche. The palate is quite pretty and mid-weight with some nut, barrel notes, and a light sea spray character.

UNTITLED Whiskey No. 19 is an 11-year old bourbon finished separately in many different casks. These barrels were previously filled with kirschwasser cherry brandy, American rum, a Bordeaux-style red blend, Amontillado sherry, and muscat wine. The nose is full of sun-ripened strawberries and orange creamsicles. On the palate, you'll find zingy flavors of Lemonhead candies and crystallized ginger before the flavors turn to dried fruits such as raisins and dates. The finish is long, bursting with dark fruit notes of dried figs and black cherries with a lingering sweetness of blackstrap molasses.

The first ongoing release of Lochlea single malt, Our Barley has been matured in a combination of ex-bourbon, ex-sherry and shaved toasted and recharred (STR) casks to create a complex character. Aromas of pears in syrup, fruit bon-bons, freshly-cut grass and marmalade fill the nose, complemented by notes of golden syrup, black pepper, rye bread, macadamia nuts, orange, cream soda and beeswax throughout the palate.

NIKKA WHISKY COFFEY MALT Distilled from 100% malted barley through a Coffey still, which is rarely done given the complexity and skill required, Nikka Coffey Malt Whisky boasts notes of cinnamon, clove, lemon and rich oak, making it ideal for sipping neat or as the base spirit in a cocktail. The Coffey stills contribute the unique depth and flavor of the distillate, not found in modern column stills of today. 45% ABV

Superb 4-year-old rye that's getting better and better with each release. It's made from two separate two mash bills, one 51% rye, the other 75% rye. Caramel, vanilla, butterscotch and cooked agave aromas practically jump from the glass in this highly-praised and perfectly-aged añejo. This tequila is so rich and complex that some people are even able to detect pineapple, peach, orange blossom, nutmeg, and raisin in the nose. Once in your mouth, the full cooked agave experience continues with a thick and oily texture that coats your mouth in a very soothing way. This particular batch of barrels seems to have from Calvados Christian Drouin, who did a cask exchange with Foursquare and released some of their own calvados aged in Foursquare rum casks.

An interesting newcomer to the U.S. market, the base of this vermouth is rich, nutty Sherry-80% amontillado and 20% Pedro Ximenez, to be precise. It has a coffee-brown hue and a bright dried-herb scent. The palate wows with sticky toffee, dried apricot, orange peel and cocoa.
